The Pathfinder is an example of a speech generating device utilzed by those who have difficulty communicating verbally due to their disability. This device is used by both adults and students to assist in daily conversations. Pathfinders contain a variety of vocabulary programs allowing the user to have shortcuts to words and phrases, rather than spelling out every word in a conversation. It has pictures to help the user explain exactly what they want without having to spell out every word. Individuals can use the vocabulary programs to create and store words or phrases for quick access. However, the Pathfinder also has pre-stored the common words or phrases to save the individual’s valuable time.
